About MLK Espresso bar & cafe

Our Story

MLK Espresso Bar & Cafe, nestled in the bottom of the historic Hi-Ho Apartment Building, started in late 2016 as My Little Kitchen. Over the years, in true Aussie fashion, locals shortened the name to MLK and, well, it stuck.

In August 2018, a long-time Broadbeach local bought the restaurant with the idea of transforming what had affectionately become known as a hidden gem to a true destination for those searching for the best breakfast on the Gold Coast.

The new look and feel of MLK was inspired by the Hawaiian word aloha and brought to life with the help of Aloha Designs (true story). By welcoming visitors and locals alike with the aloha spirit—a warm smile, a kind word and beautiful food—it’s our hope that our coastal charm and laid-back atmosphere will make you feel right at home and like you’re part of our family.

The Aloha Mural

The “Aloha” mural that welcomes guests into MLK was spray painted by local artist Insight. The mural includes a few of our favourite things—a cup of coffee, of course; the iconic Q1 in Surfer’s Paradise; a press (because we’re kind of obsessed with coffee if you couldn’t tell), a surfer riding a wave; and a sunset in Broadbeach.

When you stop in to see us, we invite you to take a photo in front of our beautiful mural and send “Greetings from the Gold Coast” to someone you love!
